1922 No D Penny Value: What Yours Is Worth
A genuine 1922 No D penny is worth about $556 in Good, $929 in Very Fine and over $10,000 in uncirculated. All 1922 cents came from Denver, and some were struck with a worn die that left no D. Coins with a weak or partial D are worth much less, and removed mint marks are a common fake.
- Why no D
- A worn, clogged die left no mint mark on some Denver cents. Philadelphia struck no cents in 1922.
- Mint mark
- There should be no trace of a D under the date.
- Strong reverse
- The most valuable version has a sharp back. Coins with a mushy back came from other dies and are worth less.

What to look for
- Check under the date for any trace of a D. Weak D coins are a separate, cheaper variety.
- Look at the back. Sharp wheat lines point to the valuable strong reverse.
- The front of a real No D often looks worn or mushy, because the die itself was worn.
Fakes and lookalikes
- Scraped or polished away D mint marks are the main fake. Look for scratches or a dished area under the date.
- Have any candidate certified by PCGS or NGC.
