# 1964 Quarter Value: What Yours Is Worth

By Mike Moore. Published Oct 8, 2026. Updated Oct 8, 2026. Canonical page: https://dimehound.app/coins/1964-quarter-value/

Every 1964 Washington quarter is 90% silver, so even a worn one is worth its melt value, about $10.67 at today's silver price. Circulated coins retail around $16, and uncirculated ones around $19 to $27. Only high grade, certified coins sell for real premiums.

- **Composition:** 90% silver, 10% copper. 0.1808 oz of pure silver.
- **Mintage:** 560,390,585 Philadelphia (no mint mark) for circulation, 704,135,528 Denver (D).
- **Mint mark:** Back of the coin, below the eagle and the wreath. No mark means Philadelphia.

**Melt value: $10.67.** Based on 0.18084 oz of silver at $59.00 per ounce on Oct 8, 2026. Melt value moves with the silver price every day.

## Value by grade

**1964 and 1964-D quarter retail values by grade**

| Grade | 1964 (no mint mark) | 1964-D |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Good to Extremely Fine (G4 to EF40) | $16 | $16 |
| About Uncirculated (AU50) | $17.50 | $17.50 |
| Uncirculated (MS60) | $19 | $19 |
| Gem Uncirculated (MS65) | $27 | $27 |
| Proof (PR65) | $23 | Not made |

Retail values from USA Coin Book. Certified MS65 coins sold for $64 and $89 in 2026 sales tracked by Greysheet. The PCGS auction record is $9,760 for an MS68 (Heritage, May 2, 2026). Values checked Oct 8, 2026.

## What to look for

- Check the edge first. A 1964 quarter has a solid silver edge. A 1965 or later quarter shows a copper stripe.
- Find the mint mark on the back, below the wreath. Nothing there means Philadelphia.
- Grade matters only for coins that look new. Worn coins all sell close to the same price.
- Sharp, unworn coins with full luster are the ones worth sending to PCGS or NGC.

## Fakes and lookalikes

- Counterfeit 1964 quarters are not common because the premium is small. The bigger risk is a 1965 or later clad quarter in a roll of 'silver'. Check every edge.
- A silver quarter weighs 6.25 grams. A clad quarter weighs 5.67 grams. A kitchen scale that reads to 0.01 g settles it.
