A bicentennial quarter from your change is worth 25 cents. Uncirculated ones are worth about $7 to $10, and the 40% silver S-mint versions sold in collector sets are worth about $12 to $13. Online stories about million dollar bicentennial quarters are made up.

What to look for

Check the mint mark next to the ponytail. Only S coins can be silver, and they came from collector sets, not change.
Look at the edge. Clad coins show a copper stripe. The silver S coins do not.
A silver 1976-S weighs 5.75 grams. A clad quarter weighs 5.67 grams. You need a good scale to tell.
